CONTRATULATIONS, CLARA for a well deserved award—we are very proud of you!!

The Alliance for Aging Inc has announced the winners of the 5th Annual Positive Living Awards.  With nearly 500,000 people age 60 or older, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties are national examples of America’s future.  Older Americans make tremendous differences in the quality of life in South Florida by “giving back” to their communities.
Clara Waterman Powell was the winner of the Positive Living category.  In order to qualify for this category the nominees must be “outstanding individuals who demonstrate exemplary energy, stamina dedication and effort through every day life”.  Those of us who know Clara are not surprised that she won.  We know that she lives the Rotary motto “Service Above Self” each day.  Not only is Clara an extraordinary Rotarian, she is also involved in with Kids and the Power of Work Program (KAPOW), she volunteers at the Homestead Hospital, she is a mentor at the Homestead Jobs Corp Center and she has been a Board member of the Little Angels Foundation since 2006.  She also has found time to serve on the City of Homestead’s Charter Review Committee 2006 and has been a member of the Homestead Historic Preservation Board since 2007.  Clara has been a member of the Mayflower Society Elder-William Brewster Colony and has served as its Colony Governor since 2008.  In addition, she is a member of the Elks Club, she serves as a volunteer at the Visitor Center of the Tropical Everglades Visitor Association and she is a charter member of the Toastmaster Club of Homestead….WOW!
The Positive Living Awards will be presented at a special dinner event on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Jungle Island.  We invite all members to attend this event to show our support for Clara and all that she does for our Club and the community.  See Debbie Lowe for details.
